Hi! I'm Heather, and my story with pediatric sleep challenges actually began 10 years ago with my daughter and first born. I was that naïve new mom in the pediatrician's office saying "but don't babies just sleep when they're tired?" while her doctor just looked at me wide-eyed and jaw agape. It was at this point that I was first introduced to sleep training.
When my son came along in late 2018, I thought I had this sleep stuff down. Boy was I wrong!! There is so much to know and I only knew part of it. Not to mention, it can be really confusing when you're in the thick of it and overwhelmed as a parent to a newborn.
For the first 6 weeks, we struggled with his sleep due to dietary intolerances that took some time to diagnose. During that period, we had introduced a lot of bad habits out of sheer desperation! So when I tell you I've been there, I have truly been there! We did literally everything wrong.
I remember rocking him while he napped at about 3 months of age while also messaging a sleep consultant because I was so tired and felt like I had utterly failed my baby! If this sounds familiar to you - you have not failed! I promise!
This introduced me to the world of Pediatric Sleep Coaching and I have been forever changed. After getting my son sleeping and my own sanity back, I began researching how I could help other families in the same way.
Today, I am a Certified Pediatric Sleep Coach through the Institute of Pediatric Sleep and Parenting and love my job! Nothing makes me happier than to know that I've made a difference in the life of parents and their babies.
My philosophy is to always work with parents to understand your parenting style and your baby's personality along with what challenges you are currently facing. It is by understanding these key pieces of the puzzle that I will fully customize a sleep plan for your family. In my plans, I include a whole host of additional tips, tricks and best practices to enhance your understanding of pediatric sleep.
When we've completed our time together and your baby is sleeping beautifully, I send you off with a Wake Windows Guide and "Bumps in the Road" document. Pediatric sleep is not linear. Just because we have it mastered today does not mean that things will always be smooth sailing. However, with the use of both of these documents, you will have the tools you need to get right back on track!
Will I ask you to force your baby to "cry it out" alone in a room while you don't ever check on them? Absolutely not. I believe that there are many other options to help teach babies and young children to sleep that are just as effective. My goal is always to match the sleep coaching technique to the family and your particular needs.
